Ukraine and Norway are to launch joint production of middle-strike drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The first drones are planned for delivery to the AFU by summer 2026. In total, the two countries plan to manufacture several thousand UAVs.

Production will be located in Norway, which will finance the project. The funds will be allocated in addition to the previously committed $7 billion in defence support for Ukraine in 2026. The agreement was signed by Norway’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Lars Ragnar Aalerud Hansen, and Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Sergiy Boyev.

Norway plans to spend more than $1.5 billion this year on procuring Ukrainian-made weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The agreement also provides for the development of comprehensive industrial cooperation, including research. The experience gained will help Norway expand its own production capabilities.

Norway has been a systematic supporter of Ukraine – last year it allocated, among other things, $600 million for the procurement of Ukrainian defence companies’ products for the AFU, announced the launch of the Brave-Norway programme, and Norwegian defence giant Kongsberg invested in the production of Ukrainian Seawolf drones in Poland and opened an office in Kyiv.
